I teach Regents Physics, AP Physics 2, and Engineering. Growing up, I never saw myself as a STEM person. It wasn't until I was in college that I felt like I belonged in STEM. I want every student to feel seen and welcomed for being their authentic selves in my STEM classroom. Physics and Engineering can be challenging, but I know my students are capable. At the beginning of every school year, students learn about growth mindset. Growth mindset is a state of mind in which someone believes they can develop their capabilities. Research from Carol Dweck has shown that students with a growth mindset see challenges as opportunities to learn. This is exactly the mindset of my Physics and Engineering students. While I aim to provide my students with a challenging, fun Physics and Engineering education, I do not always have all of the supplies to achieve this. I would greatly appreciate support to make this goal a reality.
