Many textbooks include classic, but dull literature options. In a high needs, high risk school district, my students need high interest reading materials that can aid in transforming reluctant readers into avid readers. I've created text sets based on the theme of survival and strength that resonate with my students. They see themselves in the characters and stories we read in this unit. It gives them hope and inspires them to persevere in the face of adversity. We read literature to learn about the human condition. The requested text will help build understanding with a high interest text. As Wool is the first text in the series, it will also provide an avenue for students to continue reading and learning more about the characters. This will foster a positive attitude for reading!
