I teach a vibrant group of third graders in a Title One school. Many of the children in my class come from single parent homes with incredibly low socioeconomic status. Some are being raised by grandparents or other family members. 100% of my students get free or reduced lunch and are served breakfast in our classroom daily. 80% of my students are reading one to two grade levels behind. They have each set a personal reading goal to become stronger readers. They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention! As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. It is my goal to provide them with a fun and engaging space to read and learn. My third graders come to school excited to learn each day despite the hardships they may experience!
