At the beginning of every month, my students create self portraits that are based upon a school-wide theme of the month or a specific set of goals. The self portraits that we create are posted on two bulletin boards outside our classroom. Every month the self portraits are posted one on top of the other and by the end of the school year each student will end up with a collection of self portraits. The goal of this project is for my students to be able to see how they have changed as learners over the year and to also be able to reflect on the goals they have had for themselves. The materials that are purchased through this project will be used by my students to create their self portraits. Many of my students were not able to bring in colored pencils, crayons, copy paper, and felt-tip pens at the beginning of the year, so I'm asking for them in this project. The materials that we did collect are currently being shared between all 26 students and are starting to run out. In addition to the materials that my students would use to create their self portraits, I am also asking for 3-ring binders and plastic sheet protectors to create self portrait albums to gift each student before they graduate and move on to middle school.
