I work with 9th-12th graders who attend an arts focused high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. To learn successfully, my students require support in a small-group classroom in which they receive more highly focused teacher attention. Although all of my students struggle with academic, emotional or behavioral issues, they are vibrant and talented individuals with high expectations for themselves and their futures. In addition to their academic coursework, our students participate in an "art major" class for 2 hours a day, studying music, dance, visual arts, or creative writing. Many of our students lag behind their peers in academic achievement- especially in reading and math.
