In my Autism classroom, students have struggled to keep their interest in reading. I have found that when they are allowed to choose where they sit during group reading, they are more successful. I am always searching for ways to get them excited about reading. I typically have the same students for 2 to 3 years and find it challenging to come up with new reading material that is of high interest to them. My students have diverse needs and would benefit alternative seating options, various fidgets to meet sensory and attention needs. With these new books, my students will be excited about reading again! I have seen that when given fidgets and a choice of where to sit during group reading, my students are more engaged and less disruptive. This project will help bring back their love for reading and enrich their experiences with award winning books!
