Having new books will help my students discover their love of reading and encourage them to pick up a new book. It will aid in boosting their confidence as a reader, as well as discover the types of stories they want to read. In addition, these books will keep my students engaged and proactive about taking interest in their own learning. My students know that reading builds fluency and comprehension. Having new books will help my students continue their practice in becoming skilled readers.
These new books will give my students new places to visit, new characters to meet and new adventures they can embark on. My classroom library is small, and having new books will give my students fresh new stories they can enjoy. Each book was picked personally by my students. Most have never had the opportunity to choose a book due to economic reasons, and being able to choose one was very exciting for them. Also, my students often forget their library books on library day and cannot checkout. However, having more books available for my students will give them options to continue reading even when they can't take books home from the school library.
This project was created for the purpose of helping my students grow as independent readers. My students understand that becoming skilled readers takes practice that can only come from reading. Having new books will give my students the motivation needed to continue that practice by having a variety of books picked by themselves and their peers.
