How do you learn? Do you study with loud music? Do you tap your pencil? Prefer to stand or sit? I believe everyone is capable of learning- but that everyone learns best in different ways. To foster an inclusive learning community I would really like to offer my students flexible seating options. On my list, I have 3 types of seating options. First, I have a "wobble stool." This type of seat is wonderful for students that learn best when they can fidget. This allows them to move without disturbing other students. I have a padded stool- with adjustable height. This is a comfy alternative to traditional classroom chairs. I also included floor pillows. These pillows are wonderful to accommodate students who prefer sitting on the floor at low desks. The pillows are necessary however because the classroom is 100% tiled. I will also offer my students standing desks! My hope with these different accommodations is that students will be able to choose a flexible seating spot that helps them learn. By creating a comfortable community I am fostering a positive instructional climate to promote actively engaged learners!
