My students will be given the opportunity to choose where they will sit to learn for the day. Giving them this choice empowers them and will encourage their participation and growth. Students will have the option of sitting on stability ball chairs, stools, wobbly disks, bungee chairs, and floor pillows. As their teacher, I try to provide my students with lessons tailored to their specific needs, but by allowing the students to choose where they will sit, they will take ownership of their learning. Opening up the seating options encourages student engagement and will help form a better classroom community. The students feel happier when they are able to move more and not restricted to chairs. Classroom behavior improves with active learning. Children who move more have greater creativity. Alternative and choice seating is one way we can give our students "structured" freedom.
