The Comfort Corner project will create an environment of peace and tranquility. Upon entering my SEL class students will be able to take a seat on the futon and wind down from the stress of the day. The futon will be added to mimic a Starbucks atmosphere, creating a safe space for my students. In this setting, we will have mini discussions that derive from the CASEL Wheel. The topics range from self-management to relationship skills. Social-Emotional Learning helps students build the capacity to become self-aware when in crisis. An example lesson begins with meditation,soft music will be played on the jukebox. Music will play a significant role in my classroom. Having the ability to transform my "cookie-cutter" classroom will afford the students the opportunity to step away from the norm. My room will also be available for students that may be in crisis and need a few minutes away from their assigned classroom.
