Hello and thank you for helping me support my students! I teach 1st grade at a Title 1 school in a low-income area in California. My classroom consists of mainly English Language Learners (about 80%) and all of my students qualify for free lunch. Many of my students come from single family households and families living in poverty, and many struggle with getting their basic needs met. My students come into my classroom missing many life experiences that greatly add to their learning, while also bringing with them experiences that can negatively impact their learning. Because of the high poverty neighborhood my school is in, my students and my school lack basic school supplies.
