Aside from explicit instruction, the best way to improve reading and writing skills is to read, which is more likely to happen through access to engaging, interesting texts. The incredible students that this project will benefit deserve to continue reading books that interest them. This project hopes to provide a reading corner (or rincón de lectura) that meets the needs of my 4th grade dual language learners. I want my students to have access to quality, authentic Spanish language texts. Due to limited access to books in Spanish, my hope is to provide a variety of books and literary resources to give students textual examples as they begin to write narratives and informative pieces in Spanish. I also hope to foster a love of reading in Spanish throughout the year by providing a classroom full of interesting books with protagonists that represent the students in the classroom.
