My students come to school with a passion for learning. As a second year teacher, the supplies that I have to give them the experience they deserve is limited. We have a rug that was borrowed from another gracious educator, but it is time to return it. A new rug can brighten up our room and give them an increased self confidence. My students have to use whiteboards that have been torn from years of use by previous classes. Most of them are peeling. If we aren’t using dry erase, they must bring hardback books to write on if they are using paper. This puts a strain on our books that are already falling apart. When using anchor charts, I have to hold them up because we don’t have an easel to display them. This keeps me from being able to freely teach, or I have a student hold it up and they are not learning. Having an easel will allow me the freedom to move around and teach while all of my students..
When it is time for small group instruction, they have to sit on chairs that have been worn down and some even cracking. This hinders them from being able to give their full attention to the learning that is going on in front of them. These items will provide my students with a more comfortable learning environment. I feel my students deserve much more than I can give to them on my own. They have never complained about any of the materials that we have been handed down in our classroom. They always show up with a smile and a hunger for learning.
