Most adults have memories of being read to as a child. For my kindergarten students, this is not always the case. These families, who are living in a high poverty area, often are struggling, so reading is not always a priority. Many of my students have not been exposed to literature of any kind when they enter the classroom for the first time. It is amazing to see their excitement when reading new books. I have many students who are extremely interested in non-fiction text, which exposes them to topics and animals they have never seen or even heard of. I have an extremely awesome class this year, and I am so excited about the opportunity to have books donated to this amazing group of kids.
