Students are provided supply lists which include wish lists at the beginning of the school year by their core subject teachers. Teachers who do not teach core subjects have to provide cleaning supplies and Kleenex to students as well, but it is not common practice for elective teachers to ask for supplies. Because I see all students in the building, the supplies I buy out of my pocket to clean computer keyboards, the computer mice, wipe down tables and chairs, help students keep their noses clean, and provide Germ X to help cut down on them spreading germs run out quickly and become costly for me.
The computer lab also serves as a lab for student projects and we need space to store the materials we receive. I teach two different pre-engineering classes in the Project Lead the Way Program and the kits have many components with them. I have very little little storage space in the lab. The materials are sitting in an open area in my room, and curious students tend to gravitate towards the items when they think no one is watching. The storage bins would keep these items from being visible and allow them to focus on the lessons that have been prepared for them.
