This project will give students the ability to wiggle, bounce, and keep their minds focused for longer because their bodies will be busy. Additionally, new literacy centers will add another layer of love my students have for becoming readers and challenge them in new ways.
I don't expect my five year old students to be fully engaged in worksheets while sitting on hard chairs for 6 hours a day - I have ordered a variety of flexible seating including stability balls, wobble stools, and wobble seats- because one size does not fit all!. My students are in school from 9am-4pm and expected to sit for most of those 7 hours. I can't even do that! I have read compelling articles about flexible seating and the wonders it works with students. I am so excited to revive my classroom and give my students the physical outlet they need and deserve during the day.
In the same vein, our literacy stations have become routine now that we are half way through the school year. My students are such hard workers and love learning to read! They have learned and grown so much they now need to be challenged in new ways! These research based literacy centers are exactly what they need to take their skills to the next level.
