My students attend in a public school district in upstate NY. The district is relatively small in comparison to some of the other schools in the area. The students in the school come from a wide variety of backgrounds and economic situations. I teach Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) in the school district. There are a wide variety of courses offered in the Family and Consumer Sciences department including Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles, Housing and Interior Design, Child Development, Child Psychology, etc. In Family and Consumer Sciences courses we do a variety of activities and hands on projects to help students learn skills to be successful in their families and homes, jobs and learn skills that will help them in their careers. Some students go from FACS classes into a related career after high school.
