My students need these glue, colored pencils, electric pencil sharpener, high lighters, paper and other school supplies to create and explore extraordinary examples of mathematics in the real-world. We use interactive notebooks to keep track of all of our engaging lessons and colorful mathematics doodles. The materials featured in this project will be used to create a colorful reference guide for each student in my 8th grade mathematics classroom. Eighth grade math can be challenging. It involves basic arithmetic, pre-algebra, geometry and personal financial literacy. These supplies will help create an interactive notebook full eighth grade math concepts and solutions. There is a consistent gap between class work and homework grades. I believe this is in part due to student misunderstandings and forgetfulness. I want to make sure my students get the supplies they need, regardless of any financial burden their family bears. This list does not cover every supply item, requested of the student, but it does cover most of what is needed to be successful in my classroom. Students will be ready to start work the second day of school without the awkward “My mom hasn’t been to the store yet” phase. With these supplies we will be able to sharpen our pencils and get our first lesson written down earlier. We use glue sticks almost everyday so they are a precious commodity in my classroom. We use highlighters to differentiate between the x and y axis on the coordinate plane. The large coordinate grid will be used as a large model for the students to reference. We will use the calendar to keep a record of our class assignments and due dates. The interactive notebook will provide a portable guide on how to execute each type of mathematics concept. I believe it helps to have a guide that can be taken home for homework and test review. With these materials my students will have that and more. I hope to see an increase in homework, class work, and test grades based on the implementation of these interactive notebooks in my classroom.
