I use visuals to support students during all parts of our day. From visual schedules to allow all students to keep track of their day (and know what's coming up next!) to token boards to reinforce positive behaviors, visual symbols allow all students to access lessons. I utilize visual symbols to label classroom materials, create independent work tasks (like task cards and file folder games) and show appropriate school behaviors. I will use the laminating pouches, cardstock, file folders, velcro, scissors and hole punch to create durable, high-quality and engaging visuals for my students. The plastic bins will help to keep all of our newly-created visuals organized. These materials support my students in building their independent skills and allow them to be a part of the whole school community with their grade level peers. Students with special needs require access to quality visual supports to understand classroom instruction, express their opinions and feelings, identify resources and make appropriate choices in school. My students will have several hand-on opportunities to use these materials daily which will help them to have a greater understanding of the daily schedule, content and resources in the classroom. After the materials are turned into visuals, my students will use the materials to complete independent work tasks, identify their emotions, find resources around the classroom and stay motivated by working towards rewards.
