We are incredibly diverse, and hail from all of the unique communities in the city. The students in my class and school community live in a wide range of neighborhoods. For example, our school is in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods, but students come from the most disenfranchised, impoverished neighborhoods. Despite differences, the students are vibrant, engaging youth who love coming to school; they get excited to work collaboratively and love to share their ideas. My students are part of a unique program; they tackle issues important to them and their peers to create social justice and change. The students research, evaluate, and analyze the issues (to become experts), disseminate the research to their peers (host workshops, support groups), and work as agents of change to make lasting transformations in the community. Our focus for change is community compassion and healing through restorative practices.
