My second graders are eager learners but it makes it hard when I have readers all the way from a third grade level down to a kindergarten level. We are a low income school in Texas, with a Title One status. Several kids come to school with baggage from home and are carrying a heavy load. They get very little food, or attention from home. In many ways, school is their safety net.
