There has been tons of research done about the benefits of flexible seating in classrooms and has been a topic I have been interested in for a while now. After doing a lot of research, it is clear that these seating options will help benefit my students for many reasons. Students will feel empowered if given the choice to sit where they want in class. Students will also be able to focus better because they will be comfortable. When I work at home I like to be comfortable and that always helps me be more productive, so I know it will do the same for my kiddos! I have a few students who have been diagnosed with ADHD and items like the swivel stool will help them focus better in class and be more productive. Flexible seating around the classroom increases collaboration between students. The Common Core State Standards place a huge emphasis on student collaboration projects, and if they are able to move around the classroom and sit close together, this will increase the efficiency of their work time. Finally, my students have an amazing love for reading. I can just picture them now getting all cuddled up with a pillow or cushion on the rug with their favorite book! It is my belief that introducing flexible seating into my classroom will truly help foster and advance my students' love and zest for learning!
