My students are from the South Bronx. I know several do not have the best home lives. Most have special needs. They are normal preteens with great personalities. I have found a quality or characteristic to admire about each individual student. My school is very structured, so even if they do not have structure at home, they understand it when they get to school. They need practice with reading and basic math: many of them do not read at grade level.
