I teach first grade at a Title 1 school in New Castle, DE. My school is located in a very low income, high poverty area. All of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and snack. Our school also has a wellness center and food pantry to help our students and their families in trying times. My students come from very different backgrounds and difficult home lives, but arrive each morning with a huge smile and a positive attitude, ready to learn. My class is wonderful but also very diverse. Some students are learning letters and sounds, while others are ready to dive into chapter books. I hope to help my students grow both academically and personally, as we also focus on character traits and positive interactions. When my students enter our classroom, they know their opportunities are endless, and they can do anything they put their mind to.
