As a new teacher in an ethnically diverse school, it is extremely important to have adequate representation of all creeds and races. While I do have books in my library that were donated by other teachers, none of these books focus on the unique experiences that black and brown children face. They are mostly historical explorations of figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. This men are notable figures who have made significant contributions to the fight for racial equality but the books about them do not serve as a true reflection of the children reading them. Please help me to increase the improve my students' sense of self-worth!!
