Flexible seating allows students to take ownership of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During our independent work times, my students get to choose a location in the classroom that works for best for them. My students are currently choosing to move to different tables, sit or lay on the floor with a clip board, and some even like to sit in the open closet and use the jackets as pillows for support. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. It is amazing to see the level of engagement increase when my students are given a choice to where they sit. The seating options that I have selected will allow my students to move about the room and make themselves comfortable. The bean bag chairs will give my students back support as they read. The floor cushions will provide a soft alternative to the tile floors. Both the bean bag chairs and the cushions can be moved around the room with ease.
