In anticipation of digital learning continuing in the 2020-2021 school year, each of these books will be incorporated into lessons students will access online. I have chosen the books for their connections to different cultures as well as their connection to specific second grade Virginia standards of learning. When we are finally back in the physical classroom setting, these books will be added to our classroom library in the hope that every student in the class feels represented on our bookshelf. The mix of books I have curated encompasses several different cultures. I think that the best way to teach my students empathy for other humans is to SHOW them what it is like to be someone from a culture other than their own. These books will help me give them that exposure, and hopefully make a positive impact in our classroom, our school, and our community. Thank you for helping me accomplish this goal!
