Because I serve my students in small groups, I get to focus in on their specific learning needs. I design lessons that teach language through grade level content, but I need quality resources. My students struggle with sophisticated English vocabulary, so I selected sets of books that are vocabulary-rich! Shared reading opportunities allow for vocabulary enrichment, while simultaneously focusing on improving decoding and reading comprehension skills. My students cannot always access complicated texts on their own, but in my small group classes, I provide support as we delve into texts together. The books I selected will validate my students' experiences and allow them to SEE THEMSELVES in the books we read together in ESL class. Students who are exposed to engaging books learn to LOVE reading, enriching their educational experience and allowing them access to all other content areas.
