Having a place they can relax with flexible seating gives students the opportunity to experience reading as it should be. This helps combat the negative effects that classrooms can have on student perceptions of reading. These couches will really help set up an area of the classroom where students can relax and read during independent reading time or as a reward for excellent behavior and performance. I want my advanced students to learn to appreciate and hopefully like reading nonfiction, so I feel increasing the nonfiction selection in our classroom library will help achieve this. Advanced placement students are required to read mostly nonfiction books throughout the year. Our current library is limited, so that makes it difficult for them to find interesting, relevant nonfiction books. Thanks to our generous donors, we will be one step closer to our dream classroom.
