I teach an integrated Head Start class that includes 20 general and special education students as well as English Language Learners aged 4 to 5 years old. All of my students come from low-income families. More than 90% of my students are minorities. Approximately 40% of my students are special education students. The majority of my students come from single parent households with multiple children. My students are energetic, fun-loving prekindergarteners who have a true eagerness to learn! A typical day in my classroom is filled with a variety of activities ranging from calm to high energy in literacy, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, social/emotional, and physical development. Our classroom has a strong sense of community and is full of love, encouragement, and perseverance. Despite their social and economic disadvantages, my students display a determination and desire to strive for success every day.
