In our society, kids are taught to consume content at the fastest rate possible. Appropriate movement in the classroom can be a way for students to satisfy this need. This movement will allow them to 'consume' (in a small way) in order to put their full focus on digging deeper into the complex texts of upper elementary. My project for flexible seating will allow students to satisfy this learned behavior of consuming through appropriate movement. Allowing students to have a choice in their seating gives them freedom to choose in a world that doesn't allow much choice (since they're kids). Making sure students are comfortable at school brings about great gains in learning.
