I teach two sections of a class called Literature and Film. Each day, we challenge our perspectives by reading and watching real and fictional characters sharing their story; stories about life, love, loss, redemption, triumph, you name it! My students love learning about the stories of others, but they have stories to share, too! Inside all of us are struggles and moments of strength, and sometimes the only way to fully embrace what we have been through is to share it with others through the process of filmmaking. Last year was my first year teaching this course and I had no other option but to ask students to use their own smart phones to film their projects. Some students didn't have phones and it became abundantly clear that if we were going to be able to continue making movies, we were going to need cameras that everyone would have access to. By donating to this project you are putting a camera into the hands of a student, but more than that, you are opening up a new world of creativity and possibilities for my students. I truly believe that what my students are learning in my film classes are making an impact in their lives and the lives of those around them. We tackle all kinds of topics that high school students encounter and bring light to issues that we don't always hear about.
