My students need access to books that are on their level and have engaging characters. Our school uses the Reading Workshop model. This means that students need to have approximately 10 just right books in their book bins at a time to read. That can be close to 200 books for the entire class at a time!
Our classroom library is where our students go to find engaging characters and stories to practice their reading skills. The stories of Henry and Mudge, Mr. Putter and Tabby, Little Bear, and Katie Woo are engaging books that with stories and characters that my students can relate to. These beloved series books will be used in both independent reading, where my students can read them alone, and small guided reading groups, which will allow them to read in a small group and discuss these new character friends. With these books, my students will be able to get to know characters such as Little Bear, Mr. Putter and Tabby, and Henry and Mudge across multiple stories. They will be able to discuss with their peers how the characters grow and change. These sets of books will give them the chance to fall in love with reading.
