Do you remember when you when you were in 1st or second grade? Tattling on others, using violence to solve problems, and ignoring instructions that were repeated dozens of times is the average way of doing things. It's amazing how many students arrive to middle school without learning skills to handle these situations. They often arrive without having the life skills necessary to persevere through tasks, problem-solve through conflict, or even follow directions. I believe that there are many ways to assist students in learning these skills, including through play. These games include Quizmo, Blink, and Q-bitz and will allow students to independently work through life skills, while reinforcing math concepts learned each day.
