Many of my students entered third grade this year on a Kindergarten or first grade reading level. Most of them could not spell or read basic sight words. My co-teacher and myself have been incorporating various strategies, Smart board activities, manipulatives, and other programs to help them be successful. I am always very honest with my lovies and show them with data, assessments, and graphs to see where they are struggling. They know that it doesn't matter where you start, it matters how far you go! We record and graph data together so that they can see how much progress they are making towards their goals and standards. They enjoy learning in new and creative, hands on ways, but they really love is seeing how far they have come in their learning!
