My school is a Title 1 charter school where our focus is Personalized Mastery Learning. Students and advisors (that's what we call teachers!) collaborate to decide how, when, and where a student will demonstrate mastery toward given learning outcomes. My students exemplify this idea- they are strongly independent and knowledgeable about how they learn. I teach Projects, which is a PBL based class teaching science and history. Students also engage in a Take Action project every semester, where they pick a topic for advocacy, research it, and make a difference in the world based on their research.
