Reading opens new possibilities for students. When students find a story they can connect with, it changes how they feel about literature. My classroom library is a place for discovery and this project will help add fresh, diverse voices to our already existing selection. Communication is one of the most important aspects of our lives. Our entire existence relies on our ability to effectively communicate. Literacy builds better communication in students and reading helps build literacy. My students participate in Sustained Silent Reading, which has quickly turned into a favorite activity. The students love that they get to choose a novel they are interested in and explore it on their own, without any pressure. Keeping up a good selection of books allows this activity to remain successful.
