Students in my classroom spend most of their time reading. It can be difficult to get comfortable in a regular desk chair, so providing appealing seat choices is a must. We follow the reading workshop model at our school, which affords students large chunks of time to read independently. Cozy beanbag chairs practically invite students to dive into a good book! I plan on using them to create comfortable seating for students to use around the room while they build reading stamina and work on fluency.
Many students are constantly on the go, and allowing them to move and wiggle while they work is a huge plus. I already utilize yoga balls as a seating choice, and it has helped even the most energetic of students hone in on the task at hand. Studies have shown that students should be given the opportunity to move, and stools that provide that movement help students focus during their seatwork.
These stools will be used during writing time and will allow students to wiggle and move while they are focused on creating both fiction and non-fiction pieces.
