In our classroom, reading stories is a special way that we can learn about new things and give meaning to some of the skills we are building in the classroom. These books are characters the students connect with or topics that are applicable to their lives, but they will also allow us to target the "Big 5" research based reading components.
Students who receive early intervention are more likely to see substantial developmental growth and improved outcomes. This is crucial for students with disabilities, especially when it comes to reading. With this project, my goal is to give students the building blocks that will allow them to become strong readers for life. With rhyming books we can build students ability to listen to the sounds in words, with I-Spy books we can attach meaning to text, with simple stories we can practice retelling to build comprehension, and in stories about holidays or specific topics we can build vocabulary.
Early intervention is With these tools in their tool-belt, I know my students will leave the year with strong pre-reading skills that will set them up for success in their future reading endeavors!
