Current events are everywhere but students don't always have access to the most current and reliably news. My students discuss current events on a daily basis, usually we watch news clips or read printed articles that I pull from the Internet. However, it would be great for students to be able to read a newspaper at their reading level. Reading Junior Scholastic is a great solution! Using Junior Scholastic in the classroom allows me to support my team's reading and writing teachers by integrating content area literacy in a social studies environment. Students love reading about current events in the world around them and this would allow them to continue learning at a reading level they are comfortable with. The sticky notes, index cards, and highlighters serve to give students necessary supplies to learn effective note taking skills. This is a skill that will help them grow through middle and high school all the way to college. The knowledge gained through Junior Scholastic and note taking practice will allow students to have fun and also develop critical skills!
