Flexible seating is an incredible tool that I would take full advantage of if my project is fully funded. Every student is different. Some of my students sit quietly no matter how rowdy my other students get, but then I have my students that need that little bit of motion to keep them in their spot instead of being a distraction. That's the intended purpose of the bouncy bands. They allow students to fidget without being noticed.
Flexible seating gives my students the power to take control of their learning in a safe and meaningful way.
Specifically, the flexible seating will be used for small group work. I firmly believe that a more structured environment is needed for whole group learning, but in the more open small groups, my kids would be able to take full advantage of the flexible seating. As the work becomes more independent, the student should be given the opportunity to work in the best environment for them. Some may need the wobble cushions because it constantly engages their core. The students that need these are often the ones that do a little more than just fidgeting. Some might want the lap desk because changing positions can change a students focus.
