Remember the first time you read a book and recognized yourself in a character? Many of the titles used to encourage literacy in schools today is only truly relevant to affluent students. The novels "The Hate U Give" and "All-American Boys" will provide my students with literature they can relate to. The diverse and urban nature of these novels will allow my students to relate to the characters they are reading about and provide them with situations they are familiar with. This will enhance equity in learning in my classroom and foster a lifelong desire to read by providing relevant stories.
