I teach in a cluster of teachers that are focused on teaching students for whom English is a second language. All of my students will benefit from this project. It is imperative that students recognize the relationship between science, math and technology. Students find meaning in things that they can relate to, and becoming a scientist in the classroom (rather than just reading about it) allows students to understand concepts. Middle school is a place where students develop science skills necessary for high school, college and future employment. Students need to experience the role that science and technology has in our everyday lives. Students need to be able to analyze, interpret, and solve problems to succeed. Because my students are English language learners, any additional hands-on activities allows them to make connections that might, otherwise, be difficult for them to make.
