My students need to move and they are going to find ways to move. They may get out of their seat, which causes issues for those behind them. They may start tapping pencils and pens on the desk, which causes issues for those who repetitive sounds bothers. They may start swinging their legs, which causes them to kick their neighbor. If I do not provide ways for my students to move, they will find them, and their ways are often distractions for others. By providing my students ways to move without creating a distraction, they will be able to work through the wiggles and focus more on their learning. The seats will provide options for students who need to wiggle without being a distraction. The bouncy bands will be given to every student who needs one, because even the quiet kids need the movement. My goal is that by providing alternatives, our wiggling and fidgeting can work for us instead of creating distractions and behavioral issues.
