Many of my second grade students spent first grade missing out on a quality classroom library. The excitement on their faces is breathtaking when they see themselves in the characters and authors of books in our classroom. I want to make them feel deserving of high quality reading materials. About a third of my students have families who speak languages other than English at home. Please think of adding diverse children's books to our classroom that inspire all of our students to be readers and writers! We are also focusing on social emotional skills that are often gained in Kindergarten and first grade. Book characters help children see the world as a kind and caring place. Books are an important part of being a community!
