Some of my 3rd graders are reading fluently for their age and some are struggling with their literacy. There are many students who are auditory learners and need to hear literacy to strengthen their skills. These students struggle to read on their own and have a difficult time unless someone reads to them. Others enjoy reading but are even more highly engaged through interactive listening activities such as listening to books on tape, adding music and singing to what they're reading and can even learn more through interactive books on tape or CD. The school they attend has many opportunities for technology but does not provide classroom listening centers. The more opportunities they have to listen to literacy, the better the readers they will become!
