We are dreaming of a cozy, comfortable, welcoming area to meet all together and build community. We spend a lot of time on the floor. My 2nd graders meet on the floor for morning meeting, whole group lessons, partnering, read alouds, and more. There are so many reasons gathering together on the floor is developmentally necessary for my learners. 1) Kids need space, and kids need to move! Being on the floor allows me to accomodate my little movers! 2) Every voice, every day! Gathering close allows me to hear every child's voice, and allows children to hear each other. 3) Reduce Reminders. When all together on the floor, kids have less opportunity to be distracted. We're together, we're on task, and if I need to redirect, the student is only a whisper away. 4) Community = Family. When students gather nice and near we feel like a community. We build relationships, and we feel responsible for being a caring member of our family.
