Cooking with my grandmother has taught me to be a more family focused teacher. Teaching first grade in a high-poverty school can be a challenge. I have a diverse classroom which services special ed, Deaf and Hard of Hearing and regular ed. students. My Deaf students cannot speak or hear, but their sense of smell, touch and sight are highly stimulated through our cooking lessons.
