I try to expose my students to new experiences through field trips but there's only so many trips we can take. If my students had a non-fiction library in our classroom it would expose them to many different topics they might never have the chance to learn about. They love to read, but I often don't have books on the topics they ask for. By funding my request, students will have many more choices of topics to learn about. I want my students to discover the joy of reading about a new concept and then have the curiosity to want to learn more about it. Having non-fiction books at their reading level and books containing sight words they recognize will open a whole new world for them. My students will have free choice reading time each day where they can choose a book to read to themselves, to a friend or even to the principal. If you donate to my class, you'll be giving a virtual field trip to every child every time they open one these non-fiction books.
