My students need games and activities that will keep them up and moving during indoor recess. With unpredictable Kentucky weather, we need to be able to get some of our energy out! My sweet 1st graders have asked for Interlox, Legos, and games to help keep them active and healthy! From building fairytale castles to racing to "Candy Castle" first, these student requested resources will ensure our minds and bodies are active and having fun throughout the entire year, not just on outdoor recess days. Rather than playing on an iPad my 1st graders have asked for more active choices during indoor recess. My 1st graders wanted to be creative and moving during their indoor time recess - playing board games, building towers out of legos, or engineering a magnetic bridge out of Magna Tiles. As a teacher, this project is a win-win because students are active, they are engaged, and they are building social skills with their classmates! These indoor recess activities foster skills such as motor skills, coordination, colors, numbers, cooperation, deductive reasoning, concentration, strategic thinking, and the importance of staying active. All of these are important life-long skills.
